Jorge Martinez was born in Guadalajara in 1916.  He studied painting with Jesús Guerrero Galván and with Francisco Rodríguez Caracalla.   He joined the group "Young Painters of Jalisco".   He worked with José Clemente Orozco on the works found in the Auditorium of the University of Guadalajara, the Hospicio Cabañas and the stairwell of the Government Palace.   He has received awards such as the Jalisco Art Award in 1959, the José Clemente Orozco badge in 159 and 1984, and the Honoris Causa Doctorate from the University in 2005.
